Land Acknowledgement

Illinois State University was built on the land of multiple Native nations. These lands were the traditional birthright of Indigenous people who were forcibly removed and have faced centuries of struggle for survival and identity in the wake of dispossession and displacement. We acknowledge that our campus sits on the lands that were once home to the Peoria, Kaskaskia, and Myaamia, and later due to colonial encroachment and displacement to the Fox, Potawatomi, Sauk, Shawnee, Winnebago, Ioway, Mascouten, Piankashaw, Wea, and Kickapoo Nations. We also express honor to those Indigenous people who we may have excluded in this acknowledgment due to erasure and historical inaccuracy.

As members of a public settler colonial institution, we acknowledge our responsibility not only to understand this history but also to actively confront the ways in which colonial policies and thinking continue in our personal and professional lives. While the drag community prides itself on diversity and inclusion, we acknowledge that this industry has been complicit and even instrumental in the past and present mistreatment, misrepresentation, and lack of representation of Indigenous drag queens, kings, and artists.

We at Drag Royalty are committed to creating change and progress inside and outside the drag performance industry and we ask that you join us on that journey.

Drag is in Danger.

With the recent passing of the Tennessee Drag Ban, it's been made clear that losing the ability to host and perform in drag shows is a real and terrifying threat to drag supporters, drag performers, and drag-centered organizations, like Drag Royalty, all across the country. The only way to prevent this threat is to protest anti-queer and anti-trans legislature and donate to organizations that are actively working to protect LGBTQ+ rights and freedoms at the local, state, and national levels.

That's why if you enjoy watching our performers, attend our drag shows, and support our organization as a whole, we at Drag Royalty are begging you to please donate to The Drag Defense Fund. $20, $10, $5, even $1 helps- please just donate whatever you can because every cent helps! We love what we do and it would be absolutely devastating if we couldn't do it anymore because it would be against the law. And our hearts ache for those in Tennessee who are already in that situation. That being said, the link to the Drag Defense Fund can be found below! Please donate whatever you can. Thank you in advance for your donations and thank you for your continued support through these trying times.

Sending you all so much love,

Drag Royalty❤️
